Named K'gari by the native Butchulla
people who were the original inhabitants of Fraser Island, it’s a beautiful
sandy island that's located along the southern coast of Queensland in
Australia. Anyone who imagines a sandy island will be taken for a surprise by
the amount of vegetation that he/she will come across, dense rainforests
growing on sand dunes, eucalyptus woodlands, mangrove forests, wallum and peat
swamps and coastal heaths along with the fresh water lakes and a lagoon
converts this sandy island into a tropical paradise. Stretching for around 120 kilometres
in length this World Heritage listed site covers a huge area of around 1840
square kilometres. Its unique bio diversity, flora and fauna coupled with a
wonderful marine park make it not only a sought after travel destination but
also a place conducive for educational trips.
