·         The island was once inhabited by Nugugi People, belonging to the Quandamooka group. They called it Moorgumpin. The occupation of Aboriginals can be known from the various shell middens scattered all over the island.

·         In 1857, first lighthouse was built – Cape Moreton Lighthouse. The lighthouse is world heritage listed site along with Fort Cowan Cowan and Signal Station.
